Arcam Electron-Beam-Melting

The Arcam is the ultimate solution for Additive Manufacturing for the Aerospace , Defense, and  Orthopedic implant industries. It is specifically designed for manufacturing of complex metal parts from a range of different materials, including titanium and cobalt chrome alloys. The Arcam system offers maximum design freedom and high productivity for the most complex of parts.

The Arcam A2 system is a robust production platform that is delivered with two interchangeable build tanks, one for wide builds and one for tall builds, with the emphasis on improving the already high productivity of the EBM technology, improve surface quality of the as-built parts as well as making it easier to use in a production environment. This has been accomplished through several technical innovations such as:
  • MultiBeam technology
  • Active cooling.
  • Insulated powder bed.
  • Application-specific build themes.
  • New improved software, EBM Control 3.2
The A1 is designed for production of implants. The implants are built up layer-by-layer of metal powder melted by a powerful electron beam. Each layer is melted to the exact geometry defined by the 3D CAD model. The Electron Beam Melting technology allows for high energy to be used providing high melting capacity and high productivity. The implants are built in vacuum at elevated temperatures resulting in stress relieved implants with material properties better than cast and comparable to wrought material.

The Arcam A1 is capable of delivering a beam power of up to 3500W while maintaining a scan speed that allows melting of several spots simultaneously (multi-beam). The Arcam EBM process uses vacuum to ensure the superior material properties of the EBM.

Electron Beam Melting (EBM) offer the widest variety of material choices when working metal.  One of the key functions of an AM part is that the material choice must equal, or exceed, traditional expectations and this is often directly related to the material being used to build the part.
